F.N., an American citizen married the love of his life, an Iranian citizen on January 17, 2017. Like most newlyweds, they were overjoyed and full of hope for their future. Just a few months later F.N. applied for an immigrant visa for his wife. The couple waited patiently for the interview date and then again for months on end after the interview. They checked the embassy website for updates every single day, but there were no updates other than a notice that the case was undergoing “administrative processing.” In total, the couple waited for over two years for the issuance of the visa and they began to lose hope after the implementation of the travel ban that prohibited the immigration of Iranians to the United States.
Over these miserable two years, F.N. was cast into a horrible circumstance in which his professional career continued to suffer as he was forced to travel overseas back and forth to keep his marriage alive. The travel greatly affected his professional obligations and also was a massive financial burden for travel expenses and he was eventually placed on unpaid leave.
F.N. and his wife suffered in every way imaginable. They went from being so in love, excited and hopeful to having to endure a state of total depression and hopelessness. Thankfully, F.N. reached out to us at Nimer Law and explained his circumstances. We were outraged and determined to get the justice that F.N. deserved. In response to the inhumane delay and treatment F.N. suffered, we filed a lawsuit on November 7, 2019. The couple finally received some relief when the visa was issued on January 22, 2020. We are confident that had F.N. not enlisted our help, he and his wife could very well still have been waiting for the visa. We wish the happy couple the very best with their new life together!
